SELF CARE - YOU MATTER
What is Self-Care -
The practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness. Self-care can mean different things for different people. Any practice or action you can undertake to enhance your wellbeing and happiness is considered self-care.
Why Is it Important?
In today’s fast paced world, it’s increasingly difficult to focus on ourselves as we get caught up in our daily lives, simply forget, or can’t find the time. This is detrimental because self-care not only helps us to feel good, but it also sets us up to perform at our best and benefits us in all areas of our lives. From friends and relationships to work and financial security.
Understanding why and how to improve our physical and emotional state supports us to have greater clarity and make positive, well-balanced decisions and interactions. Self-Care can be increasingly important when your life is impacted by disability related barriers such as;
- Sensory difficulties such as seeking and avoiding/sensitivity
- Burnout
- Difficulties with executive functioning
Self-care activities are restorative and help you to feel grounded, fulfilled, and improve your connection to those around you.
